Temporarily Closed to Public

We will be closing to the public starting Friday, March 13th. At this time, the shelter will be open to potential adopters by appointment only. This decision came out of a desire to exercise an abundance of caution and in response to health officials’ recommendations to prevent the spread of infectious disease.

“We’re committed to ensuring the animals at the shelter receive the best care possible,” said Carla M. Stroud, shelter director of the Tri-Lakes Humane Society. “The animals rely on our staff for their health and well-being, so we want to ensure we limit the potential of exposure for our staff.”

Tri-Lakes Humane Society has been utilizing recommended protocols. This precautionary closing does not mean that the shelter’s animals or staff are in danger of contracting or transmitting COVID-19. Tri-Lakes Humane Society will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation and how best to respond.

“We greatly appreciate our community’s support as we navigate this global health situation,” Ms. Stroud said.

While domesticated animals are not impacted by the corona virus, this is a good time to make sure that your pets are included in your disaster preparedness plans. We recommend having a 2 week supply of pet food, water, medications, veterinary information, medical records, license and/or microchip information, and an emergency contact.
